OWH Midweek Throwdown: Cards 4 Kids

I have been wanting to make a card using this cute little kitty stamp from Recollections (called Meow, Meow, purchased at Michael's.) I colored him up with Spectrum Noir's TN colors, (TN1, TN2, TN4, TN6, & TN7.) The paper is from my stash and I used a Martha Stewart Arch lattice punch for the border.  The yarn and paw print stamps were part of the Meow set and I cut out the yarn balls after coloring them. 

The sentiment is from Hero Arts "Find Joy" stamp set and I stitched around the edge with a variegated Omega thread in Coral. 

Here are two more kids-friendly cards I worked on this week.

The birthday fish card was made using stamps from rubbernecker.com and I colored it using Spectrum Noir. I layered him up on several colors of card stock and using an embossing folder from Cuttlebug called Swiss Dots. 

This second card was made using an image from Saturated Canary called "Sweetshack".   I again used Spectrum Noir to color it up and used Spellbinders "Decorative Labels Eight" for the frame. I did cut out the Sweetshack image before mounting it on card stock and the frame.

I used papers from a Farm House Paper Company 6x6 pad called Fair Skies and layered everything on navy blue card stock.  

The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Operation Write Home Fundraiser set #LP279 called "You're Always In My Heart". You can find this stamp set here:

I used an EK Success button punch and stitched everything with a red Omega thread.

Sketch Challenge #208 Operation Write Home

Happy Sketch Sunday everyone! 

Today's challenge is sketch #208 and you can find details about it here:

Here is the sketch:

I wanted to try to use this Disney character paper (that I had far too much of….) so I cut the little squares down to fit the dimensions of the sketch and layered everything on black and red card stock. I added little white stitching detail using a fun UniBall Signo Broad white pen and the sentiment was stamped using Hero Arts's "Find Joy" sentiment stamp set.  And last I added a little black ribbon with white stitching on it. 

I did have to alter the sketch by removing the little circle on the lower left because it was covering Goofy's face too much, and since I am all ready covering two of the characters with the other circle and sentiment, it just did not look right to cover Goofy.  Perhaps this was not the best paper for this sketch, but I thought I would try it.

Our Daily Bread Designs/OWH January Challenge

Each month Our Daily Bread Designs hosts a challenge for Operation Write Home. If 50 or more card makers participate in this challenge, ODBD will pay to send two boxes of OWH greeting cards to our deployed military personnel. You can find details about the challenge here:

This month"s challenge is to use "stripes" on your creation.   I used my "Arch Lattice" border punch by Martha Stewart to create my stripes and I punched them all out of white card stock.  I then used my ink distressing tool  to color them up in shades of blue, green and orange.  So this whole card was made using only white card stock and ink. :)

I used a sentiment from one of my favorite Our Daily Bread Designs sets called "Sentiments Collection 2" and you can find it here:

The ovals were cut from a Cricut Cartridge and the larger one was colored with the same green ink used to distress the lattice edges. I popped them on some dimensional adhesive to make them stand out a bit.

"A Friendly Light" Stamps Happen, Inc. & Farm House Paper Company "Fair Skies"

                   
                                                                     Hello everyone!

I created this card for Operation Write Home using an older stamp from Stamps Happen, Inc. called "A Friendly Light" from the artist D. Morgan.  To make this card fit the required dimensions for OWH, I did have to cut off the top part of the stamp that has more sea gulls and the words "A Friendly Light" (the stamp image itself is 5 1/2 inches otherwise.)

I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers using BG1, BG2, BG5, BGR2, BGR3, TB1, TB3, TB5, CR9, DR2, DG2, IG1, EB1 and the Blender marker to lighten the EB1 on the sand.

All of the papers are from a 6x6 paper pad from the Farm House Paper Company called "Fair Skies". I love this little paper pad set because the papers are red, navy, and vintage looking with maps, music notes, post cards, and the script one I used on the middle banner.

The little flags were made by cutting one of the sheets from the "Fair Skies" paper pad. It had rows of these triangles all ready on it so I just selected the ones I wanted to use and cut them out. I mounted them on a little white cotton thread, popped them on dimensional adhesive and stitched around the edge of the card.

The sentiment is from a Hero Arts "Operation Write Home Fundraiser" stamp set and I used Tim Holtz Red Brick ink to distress the edges.

Spectrum Noir January Challenge

Hello everyone! This month's Spectrum Noir challenge is to use a "critter" on your creation and color it with Spectrum Noir. You can find more details about the challenge here:

I chose "Popcorn the Bear Thanks A Bunch" stamp set for this challenge  and here are the Spectrum Noir colors I used:
Bear- TN7, TN5, TN2, TN1, EB1, BG1, BG5
Flowers- CR1, CR2, CR7, DR1, DR3, CT4, CT2, LY2
Leaves- DG2, DG3, CG2, CG4
Duck- LY2, LY3, CT2, CT4, GB3

I started off coloring TN2 over the whole image, except the little face area which I colored EB1 and and BG1. I then added TN1 & TN5 with TN7 & BG5 in the darkest areas. I went back in again and again with all the TN colors, layering up each one so that I could see little strokes of TN5 & TN7, hoping to make it look like fur. On his little paws I went heavier with the TN2 & TN1 to add those highlighted areas. 

After "fussy cutting" Popcorn, I used a little black marker on the edges to add definition and then I popped the image on some dimensional adhesive so those flowers would stand out. 

The Light Green designer paper and "Hello" sentiment paper were colored on the edges for a distressed look using DG2, DG3, CG2, & CG4.  The sentiment is also popped on dimensional adhesive (from 3M, 1/2" wide and sold on Amazon on a huge roll….love that stuff!)

The ribbon was white until I used my CG2 to make it the perfect shade of green for this card.

The red paper on the right edge was white card stock until I colored it with DR6, CR9, & CR4.
