September ODBD/OWH Challenge

Hello everyone!

Each month Our Daily Bread Designs sponsors a challenge for card makers to create a card with a specific requirement. If 50 card makers participate then Our Daily Bread Designs will pay for the shipping on two boxes of cards to our deployed Heros (up to two boxes.)

You can find details about the challenge here:

This month's requirement is to create your own background paper with either stamps or embossing.  I decided to use Darice's Basket Weave Embossing folder on white card stock.  I created the coral red layering papers with Spectrum Noir markers (CR6, CR11, DR1) on white card stock as well, though the colors do not show up well in the photo.

I used one of my favorite rubber stamps, Popcorn the Bear "Thanks a Bunch", and colored him and the flowers up with Spectrum Noir. The sentiment stamp is from Mama Elephant's "In My Heart" stamp set.

The scalloped ovals were cut using Cricut's Elegant Edges cartridge and the ribbon was found in the clearance bin at Michael's.

After cutting out my bear/flowers I popped him using some Tombow Power Tabs  to add a little dimension without getting to thick.

Thank you for stopping by!

August ODBD/OWH Challenge-Stars

Hello everyone!
Each month Our Daily Bread Designs sponsors a challenge with Operation Write Home. If 50 card-makers participate then ODBD will pay the shipping for two boxes of cards to our deployed heros.

This month's challenge is to use stars. You can find details about the challenge here:

For this card I used papers from The Paper Studio's "Cape Cod" 4.5" x 6.5" paper pad (found at Hobby Lobby.)

The stars were cut using a Cricut and the sentiment is from Hero Art's Operation Write Home fundraiser stamp set "Year Round sentiments".

I added a couple silver brads and a little stitching around the corners.

Inkadinkado Barn Stamp- Masculine Cards

Hello everyone!

Today's card was made using the Inkadinkado Barn Rubber stamp (mounted on wood), sentiment from Hero Arts "Operation Write Home Miss You" set, and papers from my stash.

The image was colored with Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers.

I layered the barn on dark chocolate card stock and then added dimensional adhesive under it so I could add a little twine where the papers meet.

The star is from Hot Off The Press's Dazzles "Home Grown Stickers" set.

OWH Mid-Month Throw-down "Thanks a Latte"

Hello everyone!

The OWH Mid-Month Throw-down is focusing on gratitude or "thank you" cards. I have been playing with this "Latte Love" stamp set from Fiskars lately so this challenge fit right in.
You can find details about the challenge here:

After stamping and coloring the cup and steam, I cut them out and popped them on a wee bit of dimensional (using power tabs by Tombo which are thinner than the usual dimensional adhesive by Scotch.)

The ovals were cut using Cricut's Elegant Edges cartridge and I used Martha Stewart's Arch Lattice border punch on some brown card stock to place under the coffee beans. The coffee beans come in the stamp set as a three inch border, so I just stamped a bit more to fill the space I needed. The sentiment is part of the stamp set as well.

The cup and beans were colored using Spectrum Noir and to get the lines on the cup I used the blender pen to "remove" a bit of color.

The red plaid paper was from my stash and the ribbon is gold satin. I used a gold pen to add a little faux stitching on the corner pieces.

Sketch #234

Happy Sketch Sunday everyone!

Today's sketch details can be found on Operation Write Home's Stars & Stamps blog, just click here:

So sorry for the picture quality (or lack of it). I am learning how to use a new camera and for some reason it just is not as clear as it should be.

I created this card using papers from a DCWV stack called "All About Boys" and a piece of Bazzil Swiss Dot. The sentiment is from Sandy Allnock's set "Ciara & Sandy", the stars are from Recollections, and the scalloped circles were cut using Cricut's Elegant Edges cartridge.

OWH Sketch #233 & Saturated Canary "Sweet Cottage"

Happy Sketch Sunday everyone! Here is today's sketch from Operation Write Home:

You can find details about the sketch challenge here:

I created this card using a digital image from Saturated Canary called "Sweet Cottage" and you can find it here to purchase:

I colored it up with Spectrum Noir markers, used papers from My Mind's Eye (Wood grain and peach floral papers from "Tangerine" and the green oval one from "Lost & Found Breeze".)  The olive green card stock everything is mounted on is actually Bazzill "Dots" (can't see any of those dots, but it was the only thing I had that would match...felt like I was wasting my favorite Bazzill.)

I distressed the edges of everything with a scissor edge and then inked them slightly with "Kiwi Slice" from Fun Stampers Journey ink.

The sentiment is from Impression Obsession and the little hearts were punched with a $1 heart punch from Michael's. At first I punched them in a light peach floral to match the other paper, but they did not show up at all, want to see?

I had all ready glued them down so I pulled out my Spectrum Noir and colored them with DR1, DR4,  and a little DR7 for a shadow. I think that works much better, do you?

Here is a close up of the cottage because I just love coloring this thing.

Sketch Challenge #232 OWH

Happy Sketch Sunday everyone! Today's OWH sketch challenge details can be found here:

The sketch looks like this:

I created this card using a Saturated Canary digital image called "Books & Bedhead" and you can find it here:
                                                                 Saturated Canary

The patterned papers are from My Mind's Eye "Tangerine" 6x6 paper pad and I layered on orange and cream card stock. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts OWH set called "Year Round Sentiments" and you can find it here:   Hero Arts

I colored the image with Spectrum Noir markers, stamped the sentiment in "Orange Slice" colored  ink from Fun Stampers Journey and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I distressed all the edges in this same ink, added a little satin ribbon and three little brads (the last three flower brads in my stash that have matched nothing else I have worked on and I was thinking they would be sitting in my stash forever....I feel like they have finally been liberated, lol.)
