OWH Midweek Throwdown: Cards 4 Kids

Hello everyone! This week's OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge is to make cards for kids.  You can find details about the challenge here:

I have been wanting to make a card using this cute little kitty stamp from Recollections (called Meow, Meow, purchased at Michael's.) I colored him up with Spectrum Noir's TN colors, (TN1, TN2, TN4, TN6, & TN7.) The paper is from my stash and I used a Martha Stewart Arch lattice punch for the border.  The yarn and paw print stamps were part of the Meow set and I cut out the yarn balls after coloring them.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts "Find Joy" stamp set and I stitched around the edge with a variegated Omega thread in Coral.

Here are two more kids-friendly cards I worked on this week.

The birthday fish card was made using stamps from rubbernecker.com and I colored it using Spectrum Noir. I layered him up on several colors of card stock and using an embossing folder from Cuttlebug called Swiss Dots.

This second card was made using an image from Saturated Canary called "Sweetshack".   I again used Spectrum Noir to color it up and used Spellbinders "Decorative Labels Eight" for the frame. I did cut out the Sweetshack image before mounting it on card stock and the frame.

Thank you for stopping by!

  3. That is really cute! Did you actually use a sewing machine to get the stiches? I am seeing alot of stiching on cards lately and I don't have a sewing machine... I need an alternative :-) Thanks for sharing!! Kristal

    1. Kristal,
I stitch all of my cards by hand and it is easier for me than setting up my sewing machine. I use a piercing tool to poke the holes first (which does take a few minutes) and then use either embroidery thread (or crochet thread) and a needle to create the stitching. I have seen the "Sew Easy" tools sold at the craft store, but have never tried them because it seems like it would be hard to get the holes exactly where I want them when working on small things like cards. If you like to embroidery things, this will be fun for you. :)

    2. Melissa- Thank you for this information! I never even thought of doing it that way. I have a great paper piercing set so I am going to try this technique on one of my next cards!!

    1. Thank you Erika! This kitty stamp set was on clearance at Michael's about a year ago for $1.49, I could not pass it up because it looked just like a chubby kitty we had once.

  5. Wow! What a super group of cards. Your coloring is fantastic ~ you are very talented. I like all of the little touches you do on your cards too, like the corners on the fish card, cutting out the yarn balls, framing focal points, etc. Beautifully done!
