Sketch Challenge # 189 OWH

Happy Sunday Sketch Challenge everyone!

Today's card is for the Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge # 189 and you can find details about it here:

I used Stampers Best Cherry Background Stamp and colored it up with Spectrum Noir CR11 and JG1. I used red and green card stock for the layers and the flags.   I used Martha Stewart's "Arch Lattice" border punch and the sentiment is from Stampabilities.  I added a little red grosgrain ribbon and a row of hand stitching to add a little more detail.

***BELOW IS A PICTURE OF WHAT DOES NOT WORK...
My first attempt looked too busy. I had used polka dot papers for the flags and it just was not right.  I am posting the picture just to remind myself to not go crazy with patterned papers.

Are your eyes ok?  See what I mean about it being too busy?

 Lesson learned.

Thank you for stopping by!
:)

  1. I really like all the detail on your card. The border punch and the stitching are especially nice.

  2. I like the end result! Had you already glued the first one down when you realized it was too busy? - how did you take it apart without wrecking it?

I recently made a card with layers & after I finished realized that the top two edges of one layer were too high, but I can't get them apart without ripping up the card & it is one of my best matches of design/layer colors/etc. Any suggestions?

    1. MizDenise,

I have had the same problem and I can totally understand not wanting to ruin it. I used an ATG (Advanced Tape Glider) as the adhesive today and the paper cooperated so that I could peel it up. I went really slow and it worked, though the piece I removed was too bent/wrinkled to be reused on anything. When I have not been able to peel something up in the past, I have ended up covering a crooked edge with a strip of ribbon or another little layer of paper...what is it they say, mistakes are embellishment opportunities? I wish you luck with your card and hope you can save that wonderful design. :)

  3. Cute!I agree, the bottom card made my eyes bug out just a bit - but seriously, it just needed that tiny change! It was still a very sweet card!

    1. Erika,

I had all ready taken the picture of the first one and posted it, but it was not until I went back to my blog that I saw how busy it was. It made me laugh at how I could not see it when it was right in front of me but it was so clear when viewed on the computer. The sentiment is my favorite these days.

  5. I love, love, love, polka dots, but even I have to agree that first attempt might have been just a wee bit over the top. And wow, you made your own designer paper by coloring those cherries. Great job and it'll definitely lift someone's spirits!

  8. Wow. The fail card almost made my vertigo start up again. LOL! You really hit the nail on the head with this one. I normally grab a bunch of papers and try to put them in a sketch only to find they don't work after all. I'm not very good at Stump Sandy-type paper matching. Thanks for sharing both cards.

    1. I am not good at Stump Sandy either. Sandy makes it look so easy, yet it is so difficult. I will find a good home for those polka dots someday.
